How much does PC/Mac servicing/repairs cost?
Cost of servicing/repairs depends on what needs to be done. We are happy to take a look at it and give you an estimate free of cost. For a list of services we provide please check our Services & Pricing page.
Is it worth getting a laptop repaired?
It really depends. For Laptops, any laptops made in the past four years is worth servicing/repairing. For laptops more than four years old we have to check it out first to see if the servicing will be cost effective. After we do our servicing we usualy expect another three to five years of useful life out of the device. A lot also depends upon the factory specification of the device. Newer MacBooks (2018 and newer) are designed to be not repairable/upgradable.
Desktops have about eight years of serviceable life.
With our hardware upgrades, software upgrades and tune-ups and services your laptop/desktop will often run much better than how you bought it brand new.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a computer?
There are a lot of factors which needs to be taken in consideration to give you an answer for your particular device. We encourage you to make an appointment and bring it in for evaluation.
How much does it cost to get a laptop repaired?
Is a 5 year old laptop still good?
It will depend on the make/model and CPU specs of the device. If you have paid 1000+ dollars when you purchased it new. (If the new price is over 1000 dollars) it may be still worth it. Bring it in for a free evaluation.
Should I repair a 4 year old laptop?
Yes you should!
Why do you have to take my computer to fix it?
While we do offer on-site and remote support services, these are generally for our business and enterprise clients. We can, in some cases provide routine repairs and check-ups remotely/on-site. More major services such as virus and malware removals, OS repairs, backup and transfers and hardware repairs/upgrades require more time and more controlled procedures in controlled environments, including, above all, backup and protection of your computers data. Most off-site repairs are performed at a flat rate cost making the repairs more affordable for the customer and allows us to perform a much more complete and thorough service.
How long will it take to repair my computer?
Most repairs take 2-3 days to complete. There are situations where the repairs may take longer such as when parts have to be ordered. AVLP strives to only use high quality, often original equipment replacement parts and not use cheap, knock-off, low quality parts that will only fail in a short amount of time. These parts are not always readily available, especially for older computers so it may take some time to source the proper replacement parts.
In some cases, if you have already contacted us and opened a repair ticket we will order the parts in advance (battery, SSD, etc.) and we can offer same day turnaround.
If repairs/servicing takes longer than 3 days, AVLP offers loaner computers* to help maintain your workflow uninterrupted.
How much will it cost to repair my computer?
This is tough to answer until we have had a chance to fully evaluate the issues you are having with your computer and what it will take to bring it back to full working order. When we schedule our free initial consultation with you, we will take the time to ask you about the problems you are currently experiencing with your computer and what you expect to happen, then make an initial assessment of what needs to be done to make sure your computer performs as you expect it to and present you with an estimate of what the repair cost will be. There are rare times when the final invoice may be slightly higher due to unforeseen issues that surface during repairs, but AVLP will always contact you to authorize the additional charges prior to performing the additional work. Most repairs fall under our standard flat rate service fee, plus any additional parts or services required.
Why shouldn't I just buy a new computer?
Part of the free initial consultation is to determine the best options for you and your computer needs. Sometimes, upgrading to a new computer system is the best option for you, and AVLP will be there to help make that upgrade process the best experience for you.
In other cases, some hardware upgrade and software tune-ups is the cost effective and best option for you. And we are happy to breathe new life and performance into your existing machine. Our hardware are best in class and often times will be the best deal for you.
Will I lose any of my documents, pictures or other data when you repair my computer?
The protection of your data is the priority at AVLP. As long as your hard drive and data integrity are still in good shape, AVLP team always begins every service with a complete backup of your system and data. If there is a problem with the data on your system, we will notify you of the problem and discuss the options you have going forward.
If our diagnosis determines that your hard drive or data storage medium need to be replaced we will offer you on of our best in class drives or back-up solutions.
How did my computer get a virus?
Currently, there are over 150,000 new forms of viruses and malware released every single day. The most common ways they get into your system are through downloads of software from illegitimate download sources, vulnerabilities in your currently installed software, clicking on malicious links in emails or visiting a compromised website, even legitimate well known websites.
Other times there are bloatware installed from manufacturer or 3rd party in your system that opens up a back door to malwares and unwanted apps. AVLP provide services to remove bloatware.
How can I prevent my computer from getting infected in the future?
Some ways to protect your computer include:
Running a good virus/malware protection solution
Using PC as a standard user and not as an administrator
Ultimately, it comes down to the behavior of the users of the computer while surfing the Internet.
Ensure you are running behind both a software and a hardware firewall
Keeping ALL of your installed software updated
Never clicking on links in emails unless you are absolutely sure you know the origins of the message
Our Aegis Software Suite provide complete, comprehensive solution to protect your PC for present and future cyber-security threats.
What is the best antivirus for my computer, preferably for free?
While there is no 100% guarantee with any anti-virus solution, the current state of virus and malware attacks on todays computer systems prompts AVLP to no longer recommend any of the free 3rd party anti-virus products currently available. They simply do not offer the same quality of protection as paid products.
Make Sure You have a Functioning Antivirus and Keep It Updated - for most people it will be Windows Defender. PC manufacturers and sale stores may not tell you that Windows has antivirus built into it! Not only is Microsoft Defender baked into the operating system, it automatically takes over protection when it detects no other antivirus, and just as automatically steps aside when you install third-party protection. The thing is, this built-in antivirus is not set up out of the box with the best protection settings leaving you vulnerable. You may think you need a third-party antivirus and may be told that the best free ones are way better than Microsoft Defender. But in reality unless you work are in a corporate or enterprise settings, all you need is optimize your system for privacy and security. Aegis Complete PC Suite takes care of that for you!
If your work, business requires you to have extra security, when you pay for your anti-virus product, you get far better protection than what any of the free solutions offer. AVLP has created a comprehensive package of several products that, when combined with the other proactive security settings, we feel is the best protection solution for your computer system.

What is cloud computing?
Cloud computing is the delivery of computing services, including servers, storage, databases, software, analytics, and more, over the Internet. These services are provided by a network of remote servers hosted on the internet, instead of being provided locally on an individual's computer or a company's own data center.
In cloud computing, users can access these computing services on-demand and pay only for the resources they use, rather than investing in expensive hardware and infrastructure upfront. Cloud computing provides flexibility, scalability, and cost-effectiveness to organizations of all sizes, making it an attractive option for businesses and individuals alike.
There are three main types of cloud computing services: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS). Each type provides a different level of abstraction and control over the underlying computing infrastructure, and users can choose the level of service that best fits their needs.
What is a computer?
A computer is an electronic device that is designed to accept input, process that input using a set of instructions or programs, and provide output in a useful format. The input can be in various forms, including text, images, sound, or other data, and the output can be in the form of visual displays, audio, or physical actions.
Computers typically consist of hardware components such as a central processing unit (CPU), memory, storage, input/output devices such as a keyboard, mouse, or touchscreen, and a display or monitor. The hardware is controlled by software, including the operating system and application programs that are used to perform specific tasks.
Computers are used for a wide range of purposes, including communication, data processing, multimedia production, scientific research, and many others. With the advent of the internet, computers have become an integral part of our daily lives, allowing us to access information, connect with others, and perform tasks more efficiently than ever before.
